So what is the best software to build a website? It depends on your understanding of the technical stuff and your budget.
If you are new to building a website then I would suggest you start with some free easy to use software.
I suggest you keep your cost to a minimum to try it out, if you find you like building websites then you can always invest in some more powerful software.
It is possible for anyone to create a website so don't worry if your level of understanding of the technical stuff is not brilliant.
Let us first consider 3 possible ways you could get a presence on the internet
- You could create a blog - you will not need to build a website but you can create content on the internet free of charge just go to blogger.com and generate your own blog free of charge. A blog is best if you intend to use it like a diary, the downside it can be time consuming.
- Your second option is to create what is called "a Lens" if you go on over to Squidoo.com you can check out what others have done. This is closer to a website and can be pretty good. A Lens is great if you want a presence on the internet to put across you ideas, you can treat it just a you would a website and add or point to blogs, favourite links, RSS feeds, Flickr photos, Google maps, your eBay auctions, CafePress designs, Amazon books or music, and so much more.
- Your third option is to make a website - does that sound hard? Well these days it is getting easier to generate you own website. It is nowhere near as technical as it used to be.
If you are like me you will probably want to build your own website with your own name/company branding.
So if you do want to go the route of generating your own website you will need some software to help you build it.
The best known software (and it is the one that I use) is Dreamweaver, the downside is that it is expensive and takes a little while to understand, but once you have mastered it you will not look back.
If however you are looking for free software then I would suggest Kompozer. Again you have to learn how to use it but it is quite easy.
There are many software packages on the market but I would suggest these as I know many web designers and they all use the same software.
